There are few private hospitals of this nature which combine Day Surgery, Consulting Suites, Café, Radiology and Oncology specialist services, including a Linear accelerator – Australia's first suspended cancer treatment radiation containment 'bunker' comprising a concrete thickness over 2.3 metres and 800 tonnes in weight. Located in Kingswood's Health & Education Precinct, 'The Quarter', Council made the necessary dispensations to allow the development to abut the footpaths, allowing the interplay of the building's architecture with the public nature of the precincts domain. Our commercial architects have been involved in all stages of the project, from design through to construction. Design and planning have been integral to achieving approval for this exciting development, with an engaging design that addresses the prominent corner site. Unlike many hospitals with a clinical sensibility, the Somerset Specialist Centre could easily be mistaken for low-rise boutique-style apartments, something that is friendly and approachable, not often seen in this building typology.
