The Calvary John James Hospital redevelopment in Deakin, will deliver the precinct a modern hospital replacing the existing single storey 1970’s building. Careful planning allows the existing hospital to operate while the new hospital carries through construction to completion on the northern part of the Deakin site.
The Hospital at present provides the only private maternity unit on the south side of Canberra, and the new hospital will continue this service along with General Medical, Rehabilitation and day and overnight surgery services. It will house 98 beds (within the Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Wards, and Special Care Nursery). There will be 10 Operating Theatres, 10 Pre-Op Holding Bays, Recovery Stage 1,2 and 3 a Central Sterilizing Department and a Rehab Gym.
The new Calvary JJH will be a hospital designed to support efficient operational flow, optimised functional adjacencies, and sunlit public and staff areas, with a strong emphasis on neurodivergent-inclusive interiors.
We will keep everyone informed on the progress of its construction.
